08:23 - Debian X.org notes - RadeonHD driver in experimental

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

The driver for ATI r5xx/r6xx boards that Suse developers have been working on for about 2 months with the recently released specifications has been pushed to the freedesktop repository as xf86-video-radeonhd. So David packaged it and uploaded it in experimental as xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd.

Of course, the driver is still very young, probably similarly stable than the now deprecated xserver-xorg-video-avivo. So if you want to test it, debug it and get it to work, you might want to join the corresponding IRC channel (#radeonhd on Freenode) and subscribe to the mailing list (radeonhd on the OpenSuse server, details are in the topic of the IRC channel). If not on IRC or on the mailing list, bugs should be reported at http://bugzilla.freedesktop.org, product xorg, component driver/radeonhd.

needs to pass NEW

(Link)
Of course, the package has to go through NEW first. In the meantime, it's available from http://pkg-xorg.alioth.debian.org/debian/

Already out of NEW

(Link)
It only took a couple hours to go through the NEW queue. So the package is officially available in Debian experimental now.

Well, just install the package, create a simple xorg.conf and start X :)

I have an x86-64 system, which appears unsupported by these:

machine:/tmp# dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd_0.0.1+git20070918-1_i386.deb
dpkg: error processing xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd_0.0.1+git20070918-1_i386.deb (--install):
package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
Errors were encountered while processing:
xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd_0.0.1+git20070918-1_i386.deb
machine:/tmp#

wrong architecture

(Link)
This is a package for i386 (x86, 32bits architectures) while you have a amd64 (x86_64, 64bits) architecture. There's a package for amd64 at ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd/xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd_0.0.1+git20070918-1_amd64.deb

(also available with apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd once you have 'experimental' in your /etc/apt/sources.list)

Re: wrong architecture

Thanks! They worked, but I cannot change my resolution to anything but 800x600, and 640x480 at 58Hz; I usually have 1600x1200 at 120Hz. The Xorg.0.log is too long, but that was a snippet.

Sorry for the crumbled formatting.
